Traditional subjective impressions or cumulative statistics fall short in accurately evaluating a player’s strength. Instead, we focus on a player’s ultimate objective: Winning. By considering the player’s success rate, the level at which they compete, the strengths of their teammates, and the quality of their opponents, we can obtain an objective rating that enables comparison with other players.
Introducing the Elo Algorithm: Our Polo Performance Rating system is built upon the Elo algorithm, developed by the renowned American statistician Arpad Emrick Elo in 1960. This algorithm has been effectively used in various sports, including chess, to determine objective scores that indicate players’ playing strengths. Each player is assigned an Elo rating, which directly correlates with their abilities. The higher the rating, the stronger the player.
